• Rathnasiri won the election with the highest number of votes awarded by the people   & sworn as the 19 th Mayor of Colombo.

• In 1999 Rathnasiri was elected to represent the Western Provincial Council.

• Rathnasiri held very important portfolios during his time to serve the country such   as the Vice- Chairman of the Red Cross Sri Lanka, The Chairman of Corporative   hospital, Director of the General Eye hospital, Director of the ‘Janasaviya” Trust Fund   (a fund which assists grass root level general public in Sri Lanka), Vice-Chairman of   National Water Supply & Drainage Board, 19 th Mayor Of Colombo, Member of the   Western Provincial Council & the General secretary of The Sri Sucharitha Foundation   which led by the late President of Sri Lanka R. Premadasa.

• Mr.Rathnasiri made so many poor & innocent people's dreams come true by placing   sustainable platforms in place for their future throughout his 36 years of long public   service career & left everyone forever in 2003 September 12.
